From the recording Saturn Song
Neal Dimick - vocals, guitar, MIDI instrumentation
In 1996, I took my first trip abroad. My wife and I went to France, and I fell in love with France. In 2002, I went to a songwriter's camp, where I was challenged to write a song about something I liked. This song was the result.
Lyrics
1. It’s eight a.m.
I haven’t slept
We spent the night aisles apart
The morning is cold, grey and wet
And then you’re beside me
And we start again
With Charles deGaulle
In the rain
2. Apple tart at the bakery stand
Then down to the trains
On the map it looks so clear
But the signs don’t quite explain
So this is Paris
My dream come true
To walk in Paris
With you
2. Trundling bags through the Metro
Then up into the heat
On past the string quartet
Playing in the street
For this is Paris
Where dreams come true
Walking in Paris
With you
Bridge
Oh, Paris, queen of beauty, queen of light
Clutch us to the bosom of your night
Paris, where the heart keeps burning bright
Love grows in Paris
4. “Monsieur, deux glaces, s'il vous plait”
By the sailboat pond
Through the flowers of the Tuileries
To the Louvre, beyond
So this is Paris
Where dreams come true
Walking in Paris
With you
Coda
So this is Paris
Where dreams come true
Walking in Paris
But there’d be no Paris
Without you
