From the recording Saturn Song

Neal Dimick - vocals, MIDI clarinet; ** Reuben X. - guitar

Arthur Wolfe was a Twin Cities jazz man, playing a number of reed instruments from the forties into the nineties. Along the way he had students/friends, and one of them, my buddy Paul, convinced him to lead the Wolf Cubs to play at Paul's daughter's wedding. I was the vocalist in that group. This song is a tribute to Arthur.

Lyrics

Play that thing
Sweeter and hotter
Than bells can ring
Supple as water
And free as the wind blows
Softer than shadows
Feel how the joy grows
When you play that thing

Play that thing
Copping the phrases
Of birds in spring
Singing the praises
Of life’s sweet and sad times
Soft corves and hard climbs
Good verse and bad rhymes
Just play that thing
