From the recording Saturn Song

Neal Dimick - vocals, guitar ** David Bennett - lead guitars, guitars, bass guitar

I have a very good friend, who is female. We talk a couple of times a week, sometimes more often, sometimes less. And before Covid, I would go to visit her. I sometimes had difficulties explaining this, to other people, to myself. This is an attempt at that explanation.

Lyrics

1. Well the loneliness and the longing
They never really go away
You could have a perfect life, a perfect love
They would find you anyway
There’s always a voice calling
From over the next hill
Though we’ll never have the chance we never had
You know I love you still

Chorus
So keep me in your back pocket baby
Call me anytime
For that way I’ll be yours
And that way you’ll be mine
And we’ll share each other’s life stories
Until those stories reach their end
You can lose your lover
You can lose your mind
But don’t you dare lose
Your best friend

2. We can knock past and present lovers
Like pop bottles off a fence
In rambling conversations
That don’t have to make much sense
For we’ll never break each other’s hearts
The way lovers do so well
If we missed a bit of heaven babe,
Perhaps we’ll skip a bit of hell
Just . .

Chorus

Bridge:
There’s always gonna be people
Who just don’t understand
There’s many kinds of love between
A woman and a man
You just have to feel sorry for them
I guess they do the best they can
All I can imagine
Is that they’ve never had a friend

3. The only way you can hurt me
Is to not let me be there
Sticks and stones don’t bother me
It’s the silence I can’t bear
And all you’ve ever done for me
is to show me my heart is true
there ain’t a thing in this old world
I would not do for you
If you’ll just . . .

Chorus
Coda
No, don’t you lose me
You’ve got to use me
Bill Withers said
“Use me, use me, use me
Til you use me up”
Ha! I’d like to see you try
Use me, use me, use me please!
