From the recording Saturn Song

Neal Dimick - guitar, vocals, MIDI instrumentation

Saturn, in Greek mythology, embodied the Father, the older generation. My father had many brushes with death, but always managed to "beat the tag". Not so with cancer, he was diagnosed in March, dead in October. My father died when my daughter was two years old and her brother less than six months old. It seemed a fitting title for a song about my posthumous question to him - "How do I deal with your death?". The song, I believe, is his answer

Lyrics

1. It’s certain, we’re gonna die
We’re hurtin’, those who’ve got ‘em feel free to cry
Show me a lifetime of dreams my boy
And I will show you an ocean of tears
The brilliant light of your pride and joy
Made brighter by the dark of your fears
Brighter by the dark of your fears

2. And it’s bitter, but this cup will surely pass
Consider, the sweet strength in every glass
Every saint, every sinner, every king and coward
Trembles before the dark gate
It’s the source of all the freedom that we’ll ever know
Knowing someday it will be too late
Yes, someday it will be too late

Bridge:
But there is magic everywhere
Miracles for those who dare
To go forth and behold them
Nurse that fire in your heart
It’s the only place to start
Go forth and be bold

3. And get ready, for the test comes every day
Stand steady, or you just might be swept away
It’s written deep in your palm my boy
Bred in your blood and your bones
You’re going to live and die for somebody’s dreams
They might as well be your own
They might as will be your own

4. ‘Cause it’s certain, we’re gonna die
We’re hurtin, those who’ve got ‘em feel free to cry
Show me a lifetime of dreams my boy
And I will show you an ocean of tears
The brilliant light of your pride and joy
Made brighter by the dark of your fears
And sweeter with the salt of your tears
So LIVE!!
Just live!!!
